Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Inclusive education ensures that all learners, regardless of their abilities or disabilities, have access to quality education in mainstream schools. It is a critical component of achieving equitable education and fostering societal integration. In Bida Local Government Area (LGA), Niger State, advocacy for inclusive education has gained momentum through public relations (PR) efforts. PR campaigns have been instrumental in creating awareness, addressing societal misconceptions, and mobilizing resources for inclusive education. According to Adewale and Suleiman (2023), effective PR strategies can influence public attitudes and encourage policy implementation to support inclusive education.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite global and national efforts to promote inclusive education, Bida LGA faces challenges such as societal stigma, inadequate infrastructure, and limited awareness. While PR campaigns aim to address these issues, their effectiveness in advocating for inclusive education in the area has not been thoroughly assessed.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To identify PR strategies used in advocating for inclusive education in Bida LGA.
  2. To evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies in achieving their objectives.
  3. To recommend improved PR approaches for promoting inclusive education.

1.4 Research Questions

  1. What PR strategies are employed to advocate for inclusive education in Bida LGA?
  2. How effective are these strategies in raising awareness and fostering acceptance?
  3. What recommendations can enhance PR campaigns for inclusive education?

1.5 Research Hypotheses

  1. PR campaigns significantly influence public awareness and acceptance of inclusive education in Bida LGA.
  2. Effective PR strategies promote resource mobilization and policy implementation for inclusive education.
  3. Enhanced PR approaches can address barriers to inclusive education in Bida LGA.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study provides insights into the role of PR in advocating for inclusive education, offering practical recommendations for PR practitioners, educators, and policymakers.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on PR campaigns advocating for inclusive education in Bida LGA, Niger State.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms
